I don’t think I need to go into how important nutrition is, whether your goal is to become a powerhouse athlete or you are looking to get that sexy body you have been dreaming off.
It’s amazing how many people will come to the gym and bust their butt in the training session but not pay attention to what they eat after they come home (or before they left home for that matter). Then there are people who decide that they will commit to eating right but never take action on it. You have to prepare yourself for success and do the shopping for the whole week (plan it) and also cook for the week or at least a couple of days ahead. That way you cannot have an excuse that you did not have time to get the food, make the food, your dog ate it, or anything else that comes to your mind.
Here is a video of what I brought home from my Sunday shopping:
What does your shopping bag hold?
Some other things that are in my fridge besides what you saw in the shopping bags: feta cheese, yams, ezekiel bread (this is really the only bread I eat which has no flour or preservatives and it is sprouted whole grain), mozzarela string cheese, dried cranberries and blueberries, tilapia, salmon, frozen grilled chicken tenders, gallons of water (which I don’t drink enough off), kiwi, tomatoes, cans and cans of beans, oatmeal (regular, no flavored stuff), sun dried tomatoes, pumpkin pie (it’s been in the freezer for about 3 months), ice cream (remember the 90/10 rule)…….and there are some other things in the back that I don’t feel like pulling out.
As far as supplements go I am keeping it real simple for right now. My shelves hold: fish oil (Biotest Flameout), Apex Multivitamin and High Protein Drink Mix, Biotest BCAA’s. I think that supplements are important in the quest for a great physique and the highest performance levels but they will not do much if your regular nutrition is crappy!
My nutrition is not a diet but it is a lifestyle, and if I could relate it to anything it would be the Precision Nutrition System. I eat real healthy 90% of the time and eat what I like 10% of the time while still getting great results. To share some of the strategies and desserts, John Berardi has been kind enough to share a couple of the e-books with my readers so take full advantage of them an enjoy:
